How to avoid accidents

If you live or work in Surrey or if you must visit the city often, chances are you cannot avoid all these dangerous intersections. So, what can you do to protect yourself? To ensure your safety and the safety of others, it is important that you always drive cautiously.

Here are some tips to help you keep safe on the streets of Surrey:

1. Keep your eyes on the road

The first rule of safe driving is that you must always pay attention to the road. It takes split seconds for an accident to happen. But by keeping your eyes on the road at all times, you can avoid hazards ahead of you. That means you must avoid changing the radio dial or skipping through your playlist to find your favourite song.

2. Never use your cell phone

It is against the law to use hand-held electronic devices while driving. Although you are permitted to speak on your phone using Bluetooth device, you may want to avoid as well. If you are too engaged in conversation, you are less likely to react quickly if any danger presents itself on your journey.

3. Observe speed limits

Speed is a contributing factor in many of the accidents that occur in Surrey. At times people cross the street when they shouldn’t, and drivers often disregard stop signs. If this happens while you are driving, it will be harder for you to come to a sudden stop the faster you are going. By observing the speed limit, you lower your risk of a collision.

4. Obey the rules of the road

Just like the speed limit, the rules of the road are there for your protection. Always slow down when approaching a stop sign or amber light. That way, you will be able to come to a complete stop when you need to. Obeying the rules of the road will not only help you to avoid a ticket but will also ensure your safety.

What to do if you’ve been injured in an accident in Surrey

Despite your best efforts, you cannot always avoid an accident. If you were injured in an accident that was caused by the negligence of another driver, you should file a personal injury claim. When filing a personal injury claim, it is best to consult a car accident lawyer to ensure you get the compensation you deserve.
